I have had so many requests about this simple external thermostat that I decided to make a how-to video to show everyone how it works.
In fact, I like this product so much that I imported some from China to sell here in Australia. You can find the External Cheese Fridge Thermostat with full instructions in our shop. I have personally been using one on my cheese fridge for just over a year without any issues. When I say cheese fridge, it is a 200 litre bar fridge that now works perfectly as a cheese fridge, sitting constantly at 13°C.
Until next time curd nerds….

This was exactly my problem Gavin! Thank you so much for the middle green light button tip. The instructions with this model From Amazon are truly dreadful. You are wonderful. Can you do something on managing the humidity? Rachel

I am looking to get a fridge to use as a cheese cave. I am looking at one with a freezer up top as I need just a bit more freezer space. Will putting the thermostat on the fridge effect theperformance of the freezer. Also, where I live the temperature can drop down to below 0 degrees at night in winter, will the fridge be able to maintain the 13 degrees through the night?

Hi Gavin, Great Live video today – thanks.
I bought a thermostat online, exactly like the one in you show here and in your ‘cheese cave” video. It works the wrong way around though. It has exactly the marking on it that yours has but I think it’s for a heat mat not a cheese cave. It only turns on when the temp is too low and turns off if temp is too high. Can you please let me know where you got this and how you figured it was a cooling thermostat, not a heating one. Maybe they are named different? I Keep getting the wrong one 🙁
Thanks in anticipation.
Teresa

Hi Teresa, thanks for watching! Press the centre button down for 5 seconds, then the green light will come on. Now it is in cooling mode. Set your temperature and away you go. Gav

Hi Gavin,
I’m in Australia and would like to get one, if you have it. I’ll add on other things from the shop to get up to AU Post minimum weight, if there is any.
I ordered one from China, but I’ve got a long wait until it gets here. A spare won’t go astray, I can use it to drop the temperature of my dehydrator for culturing tempeh, natto etc.
Cheers
Peggy

Can you suggest a replacement controller? Mostly all I find googling, is the parts to build one and I’m not interested in figuring out how to do that when there are so many more interesting things I can’t find time for 🙂

Hi Peggy, Where do you live? If in AU or NZ I can help you out as I have some in stock.

Interesting set up you have with the external controller, though I see the video’s been taken down. How robust are they and can you give pro’s and cons for using that over a wine cabinet? Love the site btw
Gavin Webber says
Depends on your summer temperature. I found that the wine fridge couldn’t keep cool when our outdoor temp went over 35C, so I had to change to refrigerated cooling and use an external thermostat. I still use it the same external thermostat, but no longer sell them hence the reason the video was removed. Gav
